Happy New Year

As we get ready to begin the New Year, you may have noticed some major changes to the site recently. We have spent the last few weeks finalizing our overhaul of NIDating to provide you with the most advanced services we have offered to date. All areas of the site have been optimized including the existing media upload options for profiles, chat, messenger and forums. Additional security options have been added so it is now easy for you to share or make private any aspect of your profile.

Other improvements include a new and more advanced member portal with easy to access menu items, and complete redesign of various member sections including new photograph and video galleries. Our site design has been tweaked and enhanced for greater usability and accessibility.

Some areas are still in transition including the Help section, so we ask you to be patient with us as we finalize all the loose ends. Please however feel free to contact us directly or through the forum to provide feedback and if you notice any bugs or problems with any of the site services.

We wish all our members a very Happy New Year for 2010 and look forward to continuing to make NIDating your number one local site for meeting new people!

NIDating and Facebook

Last year, Facebook announced a new service called Facebook Connect, which essentially makes it easier for Facebook members to take their online identity with them to different web sites. Since many of our members already have Facebook accounts, we decided to add Facebook Connect to NIDating.

Starting this week, you will see a new Facebook button beside the regular Login form, which will allow you to connect your Facebook account to your NIDating account. Once connected, you will be able to simply login at our site using the Facebook Connect button.

Besides making it easier for you to connect to NIDating, the new Facebook option will add additional features to your account. Once connected, you will be able to interact with and invite your Facebook friends to NIDating. Our system comments have been updated to integrate directly with Facebook so when you post a comment on member profiles, videos or photos, you will have the option to share this on your Facebook account!

Since this is a new feature, we would appreciate any feedback from those of you with Facebook accounts who wish to use it. We will also be revisiting and adding additional Facebook features in the near future, so stay tuned!

Northern Ireland, Belfast Dating, etc.

As we approach the end of the summer and I have completed some of the more recent updates to the site, I decided to take a look on Google to see what other regional dating sites are around. More specifically I was interested in searching for Northern Ireland and Belfast dating sites. There are certainly a lot more options out there for singles than ever before, however I was surprised to find that many of the listings that appeared were either white label affiliate sites, larger global sites or simply placeholder pages with a Northern Ireland page or link leading to a different dating site altogether.

Not that there is anything wrong with larger sites and affiliate programs, after all NIDating started as an affiliate to dateclub back in 2000 before we had our own matchmaking system. It just surprises me that there are many links that lead you into thinking you are going to a local site, when in fact you log in and find no local listings whatsoever. That’s not to say there are no decent regional sites, if you look through Google you will find many local quality dating sites for the UK and Ireland, you just need to know what you are looking for.

I am proud to say that NIDating has remained to this day a real local site with real local members. We may be a small site, but we welcome all local residents to come check us out and become part of our wee online community. Do also check out the other legitimate regional sites in the area because many are fantastic communities that a lot of hard work has gone into and many like us provide their services completely free of charge. In closing, I hope you all had a wonderful summer and I look forward providing many more exciting features to NIDating in the near future!

Purging Member Accounts

In an effort to clean up older inactive accounts on NIdating, we have removed a large amount of dormant accounts from our database. These accounts included rejected / spammer related accounts, older accounts that had not been used in the last few years and suspended / deactivated accounts.

While this brings our total member numbers down, it means that most of the accounts remaining belong to members who still use the site. We are also in the process of implementing tighter security to help prevent spam, however please do continue to use the report spam link when appropiate.

New Instant Messenger

Check out NIdating’s new Instant Messaging system…

We have just finished testing and implementation of an exciting new Instant Messaging feature for the site. Now when you use Browse or Search features on the site you will be able IM directly to online and offline members. Simple select Browse or Search and hover your mouse over the member’s thumbnail photo – an information icon should appear on the top left hand side which you can click. Once you have clicked this, an information box will open where you will be able to send a message instantly. If the member is online they will receive the message instantly and if they are offline, the message will be waiting for them the next time they log in.

Please let us know if you have any difficulties with this new feature.

Real-Time Video Streaming

We have been busy as usual bringing you the very best that we can offer. Recently we upgraded our Media servers. What does that mean you ask? Well I am glad you asked that question – basically all of our chat facilities have been upgraded to incorporate and stream video. On top of this we have added a video upload facility, so for all of you web cam owners out there – it’s time to update your profile!

Instant Messaging has also been upgraded so you can now chat with other members using voice and video! Of course, as with all our other services, there is absolutely no cost to you. The only thing we ask is that you give us some feedback from time to time on how we are doing. Just drop us a line or visit our forums. In the meanwhile, take a look at these new features and start web-cammin with other members!

NIdating’s Facelift

We have spent many weeks redeveloping much Northern Ireland’s favourite dating site to bring you an even better, faster and more feature rich personals system. During this time we have been involved with thoroughly testing all areas of our site to ensure the best service possible.

Recently we have been working on our new design, which finally launched today. While we tried to keep the overall structure of the site similar for usability purposes, we have made significant enhancements and hope you enjoy our new look!

Exciting New Community Feature!

Back in February we set up a community forum for the site, however unfortunately due to technical difficulties it came back down rather fast! We have now installed a new community Bulletin Board system which will allow all members to post messages in a public forum. This is available to all members and can be accessed by clicking the ‘Forum’ link at the top navigation bar. Take a look at the forum and be one of the first to start posting! Meet new people and have fun at the same time. Let us know if you have any suggestions for discussion topics.

For a few days there has been a problem with the ‘Join’ page of our site. This has prevented new memberships. If you recently tried joining and ran into problems, please try to resubmit your membership as this has now been resolved!
